Tackle-It Tuesday

DIY Air-Freshener re-fill

For todays "Tackle-It Tuesday" project, I decided to "Tackle" re-using my plug-in air freshener from Bath & Body Works. (Wallflowers line). I have heard rumours that these things have harmful chemicals that can cause harm to you and your family. While I'm not a scientist I can't say that this is true nor not. I take it with a grain of salt. I DO however believe that natural is better. While I love Bath & Body Works, constantly buying refills is not in my budget. I do not suggest you try using any other type of air freshener. I originally got this idea from, of course, Pinterest. I had to tried it out! All I can say is, it works! I'm going to show you how.

Step 1: Gather your necessary items. You'll need a bottle of essential oil with the fragrance you will want to have in your home. I had to choose between Tea Tree oil, Peppermint and Lavender. I chose Lavender.

I suggest doing this project near the kitchen sink for 2 reasons. You will need a little bit of water for this project and in case you spill, clean up will be quicker.

Step 2: Find a strong man with pliers. I'm lucky that my husband has every tool imaginable. As per the photo above, you will unscrew the glass container from the unit. That is the easy part. See that plastic seal holding the scent-stick in the container? You'll need some muscle to get that to pop out. If you workout, then you are set. For me who doesn't workout, I had to call in the reinforcements. Important: Do not damage the plastic part. Keep that intact once you've popped it out.

Step 3: Once the scent- stick (for lack of a better word) has been removed, you will take your bottle of essential oils and fill 1/3 of the unit as you can see in the photo above.

Step 4: With water, you will fill the unit just above the "Wallflowers" wording found on the glass container.

Step 5: Pop the scent-stick and plastic bit back into the glass container. Make sure it makes a pop sound so you know it is sealed properly. I give it a little shake even though it will not mix it at least won't be completely separated. Screw the glass container back into the wall unit.

TA-DA! You have made an eco-friendly, re-usable plug-in scent. I think you will find you will save tons of money.  You will need to make another batch in about 3 weeks.
