My To-Do Before 30 List

As many women can understand, turning 30 is an important milestone. It is a big deal for us women in our late 20s. Gasp! While I am only 28, I thought I would start planning for the big 3-0 none the less. While I understand for many 30 is just another number - it has motivated me to set goals for my life and to get my butt in gear! So, I've set a deadline for myself of things I want to accomplish before I turn 30. These are just 10 of them.
(These are in no particular order)

1. Learn to sew
I like the notion that by learning to sew I will be able to make things and perhaps even save money! I took a sewing class in Gr. 5 and didn't enjoy it much because I had to make all my own patterns and the style of clothes I made were ugly. I didn't have a choice back then what I was going to sew, but I do now! My husband and I have a sewing machine that I would like to get more use out of. Believe it or not, my husband knows more about sewing than I do because he taught himself. Impressive.

I have bought a book on how to sew called Stitch By Stitch: Learning to sew one project at a time. by Deborah Moebes. It looks easy enough to follow the instructions thanks to the amazing pictures. When I dive into this goal I will post updates about how it is going with the book. Wish me luck!

2. Publish my first novel
I got bit by the writing bug when I was only 5 years old. I wrote a little 5 page "book" back then that I look back at now and chuckle. It's cute. Now that I am an adult, I have taken my interest in writing a bit more seriously and have started my first novel. It is not finished, not even half done yet- but the plot is in my head, making its way into my iPad. I write, slowly. The story is good....and its going to be great. I'm excited. I know it is going to take time - my deadline for myself is 30.

3. Read 5 classics
There are so many wonderful books out there I want to read. I wish I could just touch a book and absorb its contents straight into my brain. Unfortunately, life isn't that perfect. It takes time to sit down and read any great book. It also takes motivation and dedication to said book. I have tried reading so many classics but they seem to loose my interest after the first chapter. I must stop this! To give you examples, I have read half of George Orwell's 1984, I have read the first 2 chapters of A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, and the first 4 chapters of Emma by Jane Austen. The list doesn't stop there, but you get the idea. When a book is written in old english, I find it difficult to relate to characters or visualize them and to imagine myself in the story. I am trying so hard to muscle through these types of books because I love them and I want my future children to know them. They are called classics for a reason.

4. Learn Yoga
I find myself stressed out more often than not. I am sure it is shortening my life spam and giving me wrinkles. Oh and I don't exercise. Bad me, I know. I thought I would use yoga as a way to not only exercise, but to also help lower my stress levels. What am I stressed about? Anything and everything. What if something goes wrong at work today? Why can't I find anything I'm looking for in the house? Ugh, what if we can't make enough money to save for a house? What if the apartment doesn't look perfect for when company comes over? When will we get the time to do laundry this week? Oh crap, I forgot to return that email! ..... you get the idea. Yoga looks to be so peaceful and great. I watched a couple of videos and look forward to making the time to actually get into it as part of my daily routine. Speaking of which...

5. Get into a routine/organize the calendar
This point is meant to be a good thing, not a controlling thing. I like there to be structure and organization in my life. In return, I will get things done. It will force me to get up earlier. I will find time for things and make time for things. Time for family, time for work, time for fun.

6. No more nail-bitting!
Seriously, this one has bugged me since I was a kid. I can't remember a time when I didn't bite my nails. I have been embarrassed about my fingers forever and just like a smoker, have not been able to stop. I have tried everything. Gross tasting nail polish, dipping my fingers into nasty liquids to deter me from putting my fingers to my mouth, and wearing fake nails. I have discovered that my nail bitting is linked to my stress and nerves - so if #4 on my list works out, it may just fix this one too. For now, I paint my nails with pretty nail polish....that seems to stop me....until the polish chips off, then I start to peel it off...and then my nail is exposed. It's horrible, I know! Arrrgghh!

7. Make this blog successful
I plan to make blogging part of my daily routine. I want to create more content, meet more people and hopefully be eligible for google ads. I love reading other women's blogs and would love to share what is on my mind with them...and you! I know this takes time....so 1.5 years is my deadline. If I don't set one for myself, then I will never build up the motivation to get it done! I can do this!

8. Master the recipe for the best iced coffee
I have yet to find the best Iced-Coffee recipe. Going to Starbucks is a nice treat once in a while. As you know, they aren't cheap. Now and again I do crave coffee and a trip to Starbucks isn't always in the cards. I have tried making it myself, but its just not as good. Also, we don't typically keep milk in the house or cream. Makes this task even trickier. Also, I use hot coffee in the blender, which causes the ice to melt making the coffee watery. Sigh. One day I will get it right!  Got a recipe for me to try? Let me know, ppuuullleeeeeease!

9. Master the art of calligraphy
I love calligraphy. I have the pen set and the ink. I have a book about how to master it. I do practise from time to time. It really is a stunning art form - in my opinion. I want to be great at it! See my Allie signature at the bottom of every post? I want to be THAT good.

10. Buy a house and decorate it
My husband and I want to get a house like.... yesterday! Unfortunately money doesn't grow on trees, so it will take some time until we get to the point where we can afford a nice down-payment. It is part of our life dream to buy a house, fix it up and make it our own. Lets just say, renting apartments is getting tiresome. Having to do our laundry down the street and climb 3 flights of stairs is getting old. Not to mention we are getting tired of noisy neighbours and funky smells in the halls...you know what I'm talking about!

.... Well thats part of my list. I'm sure I will come up with more items to add....but I think that is a healthy number to start with. Do you have a "to-do list before you hit 30, or 40, 50" ??
