Baby, it's cold outside....

Now that October has arrived, the air has turned cold and the sun doesn't make as many appearances as we would like. Having said that, let's not dwell on the negatives of the change of season. Let's make the most of the cold weather shall we?

Any ideas?

I have a few!

1. Buy a fun/cute [but inexpensive] winter outfit! Do you ever buy new clothes that you just can't wait to wear? Same could be applied to winter gear. Are your boots looking tired? Are you bored with the same scarf year after year? Why not buy a piece of winter gear that will make you smile? If you are motivated and have the know how, why not knit yourself a new scarf in fun colours? Fall & winter don't have to be dull! On a budget? Check out your local thrift store. They have such cool stuff in those stores!

2. Research fun fall & winter activities in your town/city! You may not have a ski slope in your town, but you may have access to fun activities that could be perfect for you and a loved one on a date, or for you and your family to enjoy! Does your community have an activity guide? Does your local park have a slope? Sledding! Carolling! Skating! Build a snowman! For fall, make giant piles of leaves in the backyard and get the kids to jump into them! You do it too. No, I'm not nuts, try it. There is a reason why kids love doing it! Around Christmas time, take a drive around town and look at the decorated homes - make sure to bring some hot cocoa! [make a tradition of it!] ;o}

3. Host a Christmas Movie Night. Pick a couple of fun Christmas themed movies [or Halloween for this month] and invite friends over. Who says movie nights are for kids? Make the living room comfortable for a bunch of adults to hang out, watch movies, drink hot chocolate [with or without Bailey's ;)] egg nog is also a favourite. Everyone brings their favourite Christmas treat and make a night of it! [Remember designated drivers or sleepovers!] The same can be done for Halloween if you are like me and would prefer to stay in with a scary movie and junk food!

4. Build a snowman. It really is a simple as that. For my 26th birthday, my husband [then fiancĂ©] invited me outside to build a snowman. Silly right? That is what made it so fun. I forgot just how fun it is to play in the snow! We had a blast building this enormous man! No hat unfortunately, but we did find sticks to give him arms [hard to see them in the pic]. After the man was built, I decided to plop myself on the ground and start making snow angels! Oh yeah I did! We then went inside for some hot cocoa - with marshmallows!

Fall & winter seasons do not need to be boring! My goal is to focus less on the negatives of the cold and to look for ways to have more fun outside! Did I mention there is hot cocoa to be had?! Score!

What are your favourite fall/winter activities?
