Lil' Red

This adorable baby red squirrel was abandoned by her mama. My husband and I found her just outside our house one warm spring afternoon. She was in shock & starving. We wrapped her in a warm blanket and fed her formula & water from a syringe. She would cry out tiny little cries when we would wake her up. All she wanted to do was sleep. We kept her inside for a few hours until we realized that she need proper medical attention. We wanted her to survive and stay with us, but we couldn't be selfish. My husband called a rescue centre for wild animals. They instructed us to bring her to them, where they could care for her. At this point, we had fallen for this little soul...silly, isn't it?

We took her to the shelter, where they put her under a heating lamp and rubbed her. As it turns out, she was only a couple months old and literally freezing cold. She hadn't yet learned to regulate her body temperature. They promised to look after her, and feed her throughout the night. We could call and check her status....and we did! By the end of summer, they were going to let her into the wild, close to where we found her. We saved her life. For a short period of time, she was out little baby squirrel. We even named her.... Lil' Red. We miss that little ball of fur....silly, isn't it?
